CISD Students to Get Their HEARTS Checked

Celina ISD is proud to partner with the Brandon Goyne Foundation and Wimbledon Athletics to provide cardiovascular testing! Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat – and it’s fatal in 95% of the cases. It is the leading cause of death on school campuses. The American Heart Association reports that every 3 days in the U.S., a young athlete dies from it. The threat is REAL.

Saturday, March 3rd and Saturday, March 24th, athletes and students between the ages of 12 and 25 who participate in sports and high-endurance activities (like marching band, cheer, and dance) can be tested right here at Celina High School. Ensuring young athletes and their families are made aware of any underlying issues as early as possible is extremely important, which is why we’ve created this partnership.

Tests include EKGs and echocardiograms to detect heart abnormalities that can cause sudden cardiac arrest and non-invasive vascular ultrasound to identify vascular conditions common to athletes (such as blood clots). Qualified sonographers (techs) perform the tests professionally and maintain the privacy of each student. Board certified reading cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, and radiologists interpret test results and report detailed findings. If anything significant is identified, the parent/guardian will be notified immediately! There are no upfront costs for the testing. Wimbledon Health Partners will bill your insurance.

IMPORTANT: Students should wear baggy shorts and, for the females, a sports bra to the testing!
