1st Annual Cornhole Tournament and Raffle to Benefit Celina Police Association

After almost two years since it was established, the Celina Police Association has made its mark on the Celina community. Like most 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, the Celina Police Association depends on donations from the public at large to fund their programs. Programs such as their Scholarship Fund, which in 2018 provided over $5,000 to local students to assist with college and educational programs, and their Officer Down Fund, which also provided $5,000 to a local law enforcement officer’s family after he was shot and killed in the line of duty. While the Celina Police Association is happy to accept donations, they make every attempt to reach the community in fun and innovative ways to raise the money necessary to keep growing. “We want people to have fun and get to know the officers who protect and serve them while showing their support. We continue to look for ways raise money that make people enjoy supporting the Association.” said Detective Jeremiah Phillips, President of the Celina Police Association. In 2017, the Association introduced Dunk a Cop, a way for children to meet Celina’s finest while getting to have a little fun with the dunk tank, at Celina’s Parkfest and again in 2018 at Celina’s Splash & Blast. Further, in 2018, the Association offered citizens the opportunity to play their hand against some of Major League Baseball’s greats in a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament, which we detailed in a prior issue of Celina Magazine.

Now the Association has come up with another great way for you to get out there and have some fun. On October 13, 2018, the Association will be having a Cornhole Tournament at Celina’s Oktoberfest on the Historic Downtown Square. Like with all their events, the Association went above and beyond to ensure this event is a success and everyone has a great time. “Using Oktoberfest as a venue allows for participants to drink, eat, and enjoy music and other festivities while in between games and throughout the day” states, Detective Phillips. The Association even came up with custom cornhole board designs.  The cost for the tournament is $50 per team (plus entry to Oktoberfest) and might also be considered a tax deductible donation. The Association looks to have anywhere from 50 to 75 teams sign up. The first place team is to receive $250 cash and their pick of one set of the three custom boards.
