CELINA Magazine’s December Business of the Month: Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center

Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center was founded in 1996 by Dr. Matthew D. Barrows. Over the past 20+ years, the practice has grown tremendously and now has 15 medical providers in 13 North Texas locations. The Celina location opened on July 2nd, 2018.

Dr. Christopher Hixon is a board-certified Dermatologist in their Celina location. Dr. Hixon attended Virginia Tech, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Pre-Medicine and his graduate degree in Exercise & Health Promotion. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Lewis Gale Hospital in Virginia. Dr. Hixon moved to Texas in 2016 with his wife Jamie, along with their two children, Isla and Knox. When not attending his children’s school or sporting events, Dr. Hixon enjoys spending time playing golf, working out and doing anything related to classic cars. “I have a long addiction to golf and I enjoy playing when I have the time to do so. I have developed a fascination with classic cars, particularly of the 1950’s. I currently own a 1951 Mercury which I have had the pleasure of enjoying with my wife and kids for the past 5 years,” says Dr. Hixon.

The Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center is a one-stop solution offering a full range of services and treatments for all of your medical and cosmetic dermatological needs. They have 13 convenient locations across North Texas and a private in-house lab and Pathologist on staff in McKinney. This allows for any specimens to be read quicker than if they were to be sent out to a separate lab. They also offer several different skin cancer treatment options, including traditional skin cancer surgery options. In addition to that, they provide Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Superficial Radiation Therapy at their main office in McKinney. They have a triple-board certified Plastic Surgeon to perform closures and repairs and minimize the appearance of scarring from a procedure. The practice offers Saturday appointments at the McKinney and Anna locations.

Dr. Hixon says, “I enjoy forming relationships with patients and getting to know them on a personal level. We pride ourselves on our integrity and attention to each patient while utilizing the latest technology to achieve the best possible medical and cosmetic dermatology results. We have developed a trusted team of highly skilled healthcare professionals to provide compassionate care in comfortable and welcoming state-of-the-art facilities.”

Their mission is to provide outstanding medical and cosmetic dermatology services to patients of all ages and their practice uses a multi-dimensional approach with patients to focus on prevention, detection and treatment. The vision for the Celina location is to become a cornerstone in the community and provide outstanding medical and cosmetic dermatology services to patients of all ages. They make every effort to get to know each patient individually because they know that medicine is not one-size fits all. Their practice strives to become part of the local community by taking part in local events by either sponsorship or by physically being present.

Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center is a member of both the Celina Chamber of Commerce and the Prosper Chamber of Commerce. Their goal is to be active in the community through supporting local happenings to sporting events by sponsoring organizations like Celina High School Football, Celina Friday Night Market Celina’s Trick or Treat on the Square and Celina’s Christmas on the Square.
