The Celina LadyCats took the mound against the Aubrey Chaparrals at home on Monday evening. Celina filled the stands with a roaring crowd, and by the end of the first inning, they were up 3-2. Celina tried to keep the momentum pumping, but Aubrey ended up taking the lead in the 2nd. The LadyCats then took it back, and at the beginning of the 4th inning, were up 5-4. There was no turning back for Celina after that, scoring 3 more unanswered runs and going into the 5th ahead 8-4.
Grace Cantu blasted one out of the park, putting Celina into a very comfortable 11-4 lead. Aubrey would come back to score 3 final runs, but when all was said and done, Celina defeated the Chaparrals 11-7. The win keeps the LadyCats in the 1st place spot in District 11-4A! Although Celina is tied with the Melissa Cardinals in their district records, the LadyCats beat the Cardinals head-to-head on March 16th. Aubrey fell to 3rd place with the loss.
The LadyCats face off against the Bonham Warriors at home on Friday, March 30. Celina will be looking to redeem themselves after suffering a 5-1 loss against the Warriors earlier this month on Bonham’s turf. It’s the only district loss that Celina has recorded this season. The two teams will take the field at 6:00pm.
